Computer vision aims to enable the perception of the world through the eyes of a computer. However, whenever one wishes to examine an observable real quantity and relate it to a mathematical model, statistics must be taken into account. For this reason, this second chapter presents several statistical techniques that are fundamental for developing machine vision algorithms.
