One of the characteristics of low-level processing of images is that it is a data-driven process, this means that generally no global knowledge about the image is required to process it. In this work, the pyramidal approach has been used both to decrease the amount of data to be processed, working at coarse resolution, and to increase the performance of the segmentation algorithm, allowing the use of a sort of a-priori knowledge about the image.
