Genetic and interval algorithm for semi-infinite optimization.

Genetic and interval algorithms can be successfully applied for solving non-linear contrained optimization problems due to their capability to find global solutions. In particular, both optimization techinques have been used to develope a hybrid algorithm able to handle semi-infinite optimization problems. Such algorithm has been usefully used to design an optimal robust controller for a plant with structured uncertainty [1] and for a plant with unstructured uncertainty (Hinfinity problem) [2]. A further improvement is obtained by designing a fixed structure controller for a plant having both structured and unstructured uncertainties [3]
