The research activity concerns the study of a new methodology for the
control of variable reluctance motors.
As a first step, a new model for variable reluctance motors is proposed.
It takes into account the strong non-linearity deriving from the saturation
of the magnetic materials and the variability of the magnetic path. [1]
A three level controller is proposed. The outer loop (i.e. the velocity
controller) is designed by means of Variable Structure techniques. The
torque controller is based on a feedforward compensator designed by means
of a non-linear optimization procedure. An hysteresis current controller
is used for the inner loop. [2]
A prototype controller, based on a DSP board, has been developed at LAR.
A good agreement between expected and experimental results has been verified.
